About
Practical storm prep from one Florida homeowner to another.
Florida Storm & Home Prep is a small, independent blog about getting a Florida house ready for hurricane season and dealing with what comes after. The focus is on the things homeowners actually wrestle with: protecting windows and doors, yard and drainage prep, power outages, insurance claims and storm cleanup.
It's written by a longtime Florida homeowner who has put up plywood in the heat, sat through long power outages and filed a storm claim or two. I'm not an insurance agent, lawyer or engineer. I'm someone who reads the fine print so you don't have to start from scratch.
How the guides are written
- Specific rules, deadlines and safety advice are checked against official sources such as NOAA, FEMA, the CDC and Florida state agencies, and each guide links to them.
- The wording is statewide on purpose. Local rules vary, so check with your county or city for anything specific to where you live.
- Guides are updated when rules change. If you spot a mistake, please tell me through the contact page.

The fine print
Everything here is general information, not professional, legal or insurance advice. Your policy, your house and your local rules are what count for your situation.
